HEAR: Wicked Cool Records
Stop toiling hopelessly over that homemade flux capacitor. All you need to go back in time are a few of Wicked Cool Records’ new releases. Little Steven’s label specializes in unearthing modern bands stuck in rock’s ’60s heyday. The Woggles’ “Rock ’n’ Roll Backlash” sounds like Stax stacked on garage rock. The Stabilisers’ “Wanna Do the Wild Plastic Brane Love Thing” would have been on Iggy and the Stooges’ teenage playlist. The Chesterfield Kings’ “Psychedelic Sunrise” hits like some great, lost ’60s Stones album. For the indecisive, there’s the new “Coolest Songs in the World Vol. 2” compilation featuring Joey Ramone, the Donnas, the Raveonettes and more.
