It's too bad garage rock isn't the music du jour anymore, because bands like this one and its new record prove that some hype is justified for groups that just want to turn it up and turn it loose.
No mere mediocre garage act, the Len Price 3 will restore your faith in three chords and a whole lot of attitude. Taking its cue both musically and spiritually from the legendary Billy Childish and his many projects, the Len Price 3 play raw garage-punk that references everything from '60s British Invasion bands, like the Who and the Kinks, to '70s punk heroes such as the Buzzcocks and the Damned. But more than that, like Childish, they believe in an aesthetic that favors immediacy and naked passion over precision and irony.
In fact, the title cut takes straight aim at bands that feed the music hype machine that is the British press. The influential magazine NME is mentioned in the title track, but that may not ultimately matter: If the Len Price 3 keeps turning out CDs like this one, they may end up on NME's cover. It would be well deserved.
