The Breakers of Copenhagen, Denmark were signed by Little Steven Van Zandt to Wicked Cool Records in 2008. The Breakers harken back to when the Rolling Stones, Small Faces, and Yardbirds were Rock and Roll dance bands inspired by the Soul music of Motown, Memphis, and Muscle Shoals.

The band’s wild energy is fueled by the weaving double guitars of Anders Bruus and Klaus Højbjerg and the super solid rhythm section of Jackie Larsen (bass) and Thomas Stølsvig (drums). Toke Nisted’s smoky vocals and seamless harmonies evoke the Rhythm and Blues passion of Steve Marriott, Stevie Winwood, Chris Farlowe, and Rod Stewart.

The Breakers recently finished recording their third album, and very first for Wicked Cool, with Little Steven in NYC. Van Zandt produced the album and co-wrote several songs with the band as well. The first single “Riot Act” is out now - both digitally and on 7” vinyl. The album will be released in early 2011.

The Breakers performed at Hard Rock Calling in Hyde Park, London in June 2010, closing the second stage just before Paul McCartney played the main stage. The Breakers also traveled to the U.S. for SxSW in March 2009 for two Underground Garage A Go-Go parties hosted by Van Zandt.

Van Zandt, chairman and founder of Wicked Cool, believes The Breakers should stay connected to their hometown by continuing to play local gigs. It’s no different than the club shows secured by The Beatles and The Rolling Stones in the 1960’s. Therefore, The Breakers have booked month-long residencies multiple times at the legendary Floss (in Copenhagen). The set lists feature classic soul, rhythm & blues, etc., as well as the songs from their upcoming album.

Founded in 2002, The Breakers have two previous albums: What I Want (2004) and Here For A Laugh (2006). In particular, Here For A Laugh garnered excellent reviews and support at college and commercial radio across the United States.

The Breakers have brought their dance party to more than 170 gigs, including many outside of Denmark. Ecstatic, sweaty, and exhausted audiences are left craving more!

“It’s the Who meets the Ramones meets the Easybeats meets Beach Blanket Bingo! It’s the criminals Australia wants to ship back to England and call it even! It’s the High Priests of the Barbarella Girl God Love Cult! It’s The Chevelles!” - Little Steven Van Zandt

It was the summer of 1989-90. The twin peaks of revivalist 60’s psychedelia and post punk garage rock and roll had collided in Australia. Out of the West Australian surf crawled four long-haired boys determined to make their own special guitar noise and The Chevelles were born. Featuring members of The Stems, The Kryptonics, and The Freuds, the band has showcased a wave of blistering guitars, soaring harmonies, and head shaking tunes through their 20 year history.

The Chevelles’ debut album “Kids Ain’t Hip” (1992) was released on Survival Records in Australia and Europe. The single “Show Me Your Love” received heavy rotation on JJJ in Australia and the band quickly developed an underground Australian and European following which was backed up by extensive touring in both regions. The Chevelles’ 2nd studio album “Gigantic” (1993) was released to rave reviews, and the band was featured prominently on many European rock radio/TV playlists. In France, “Gigantic” spent two months on the Rock 30 Radio Chart, entering at No 3. alongside such luminaries as Sugar, Suede, and Aerosmith. By the end of 1994 the band had blazed their way around Australia three times and charged across Europe with an electrifying 42 date tour.
In 1997, The Chevelles released an exclusive Brazilian compilation titled “Delirium,” which cemented the band in the country’s surf market. Between 1999 and 2004, The Chevelles toured the region four times, landing tracks in three surf movies, and playing a wild beach festival to over 30, 000 people. “Rollerball Candy” (1999) was released in Europe, Australia, and Brazil, further cementing the band as the torch bearers of Australian Garage Power Pop movement. In 2003, The Chevelles released their first U.S. album “Girl God” on ZIP Records.
In 2008, Little Steven’s Wicked Cool Records signed the band to a worldwide deal, including their entire catalog and publishing. The deal has culminated in the release of “Barbarella Girl God - Introducing the Chevelles.” “Barbarella Girl God” features Little Steven’s Chevelles favorites, including many cuts heard over the years on Steven’s Underground Garage radio show. The band’s catalog was released digitally (including their most recent album “Accelerator”), yet “Barbarella Girl God” is an exceptional collection, and a perfect album to share with the world on the band’s 2010 20th Anniversary Tour.
The Chevelles have played over 1000 live shows in their career and have earned their reputation as “Australian Cult Garage Power Pop Legends.” The deal with Wicked Cool has created new opportunities for their brilliant songs. For example, “Get It On” was featured in the “Rock Band 2″ video game and their single “Get Back To New York City,” was broadcast on Fox during the 2009 MLB World Series

On their 20th Anniversary Tour, The Chevelles are firing up their 350 Chevy again and bringing their Tsunami of guitars and melody all over the world. The 20th Anniversary World tour starts in January at the prestigious Australian
Festival “The Big Day Out” and the year ahead will see the band extensively tour Australia, the US (including SXSW 2010), Europe, and Brazil.

“The guitars are some of the biggest in the business, towering power chords straight from the loins of Pete Townsend, almost too big, and always melodic in an immaculate way” Houston Press, USA

The Contrast explode into 3D - do not attempt to adjust the picture

The Contrast’s sleek, edgy, chiming guitar pop embraces influences spanning folk, rock & roll, country, surf, psychedelia, 60s pop, jazz, punk and power pop, plus film noir, surrealism and sci-fi, wrapped up into irresistible 3-minute pop songs.

It’s impossible to tie the band to any specific musical genre or movement, although, in view of their flamboyant, raw live shows, garage rock is perhaps the closest fit.

Operating out of Peterborough, a below sea-level (in more ways than one) city in the east midlands of the UK, The Contrast was formed by Glasgow born singer/songwriter/guitarist, David Reid in 1999. From the start, Reid’s plan was a simple one: “to write & perform songs that I love as much as my favourite records, books and movies”.

The bands’ name came from the chorus line of Mystery #1, their debut album’s title track – “…turn the contrast down”. Since 2006, the band line-up has featured, alongside David Reid: Richard Mackman (bass/backing vocals), Thorin Dixon (drums) and Kieran Wade (rhythm guitar/backing vocals/keys) – all amazing players and all well able to match Reid’s encyclopaedic knowledge of pop history and slightly unhinged sense of the absurd.

In 2002, Little Steven Van Zandt featured ‘Mystery #1’ as ‘Coolest Song in the World’ on his ground-breaking Underground Garage radio show. Steven has continued to champion the band throughout their career and invited them to play at the legendary Underground Garage Festival on Randall’s Island NYC in 2004, one of The Contrast’s ten US festival appearances since 2002. To date, The Contrast has earned more ‘Coolest Songs in the World’ distinctions than any other band played on the Underground Garage show.

The Contrast released five critically acclaimed albums on the New York based Rainbow Quartz label before signing to Little Steven Van Zandt’s Wicked Cool Records in 2007. Their first album for Wicked Cool, ‘Perfect Disguise’ (2008), was a compilation of the band’s best tracks. The collection also included a new, acoustic version of the title track, co-produced and arranged by Little Steven.

The Contrast’s sixth full-length album ‘God of Malfunction’ sees the band going into ‘wide-screen’ mode with their most creative and ambitious work. The band has always enhanced their core sound on record with vintage keyboards, percussion, and special FX. However, The Contrast is much bolder on the new album, allowing the songs to feature “whatever ‘they’ demanded”. Cello, theremin, mellotron, treated electric piano & Eno-esque ambient textures appear alongside the ebow, classic organs, and grand piano that the band has always used in the studio to augment their core Rickenbacker-heavy live sound.

The Contrast worked closely with executive producer Little Steven on God Of Malfunction. His arrangements and production suggestions were invaluable to the completion of the album. Also collaborating with the band was long time engineer/co-producer, Andy Hawkins and veteran producer/remixer, John Luongo. The result sounds completely and unmistakably like The Contrast, only this time in full 3-D.

‘God of Malfunction’ is set for release on April 13, 2010 on Wicked Cool.

“I’m seeing a coming all-girl-band trend and it will be led by the Cocktail Slippers. They are the

perfect role models for a new generation. They’re talented, they understand Rock and Roll is a

craft and they work hard at it, and they never stop wanting to learn and improve. They’ve got soul

and they’re the best.” - Little Steven

Norway’s premiere all girl band The Cocktail Slippers have been making incredible strides in the international music scene following the release of Saint Valentine’s Day Massacre. The title track is one of two songs on the album written, arranged, and produced by Little Steven. This album marks only the third time in Wicked Cool history that Van Zandt has become directly involved in the production of a record (the other two times were with The Chesterfield Kings).

The Cocktails Slippers began nearly eight years ago after a two year stint playing in a garage rock band called The Barbarellas. They recorded their first record Rock It! in 2002 (now available digitally on Wicked Cool), and it was followed by their 2007 Wicked Cool debut, Mastermind. During the last 18 months the band added a new guitarist and drummer, while tirelessly working on their album. All five members of the Cocktail Slippers write songs and produce their own material.

St. Valentine’s Day Massacrewas recorded in a converted bomb shelter in Oslo, Norway and was not without its challenges. As lead singer Modesty Blaze explains “Imagine this… You have been working towards a record for three years. The band has taken time off work, rehearsing the songs, the studio is booked. Everything is ready. And then, five days before starting recording in the studio, the drummer calls the other members to tell them she has to quit the band!…..So what do you do? We couldn´t, and wouldn´t cancel. In the last minute a friend of ours stepped in and did the drums on the first takes.

Fortunately, it didn’t take long before we found Bella Donna. She is a GREAT drummer.”

Once the Cocktail Slippers hit their stride in the studio, there was no stopping them. Armed with lots of good material to choose from and a solid line up, the band started recording the tracks that would become St. Valentine’s Day Massacre.

For only the third time in Wicked Cool history, label head Stevie Van Zandt has gotten directly involved in the production of a record (the first two times were the Chesterfield Kings’ last two albums).

Steven tells the story:

“We were hanging out with the band listening to the new songs and everybody was in a good mood because we knew the girls had taken their thing to another level. Somebody said they only needed one or two more songs to complete the album and one of the band asked me if I had anything laying around.

I played them the idea I had for ‘The St. Valentine’s Day Massacre,’ and they really dug it. Somebody said it would make a great album title and somebody else said now all we need is for you to come to Oslo and produce it.

So I did.

The night before I fly to Oslo I’m lying in bed thinking about girl groups past and present and where the Cocktail Slippers fit in. I decide they’re really quite unique but they do have a trace of the Shangri-La’s attitude once you get to know them and how it would be cool to bring that out, that young girl/street theater thing, somehow on the album.

Just as I’m drifting off a melody comes to me. Now as every songwriter knows, here’s the moment of truth. Every bone in your body is telling you not to worry you’ll remember it in the morning but you know that’s the demon part of your brain lying to you so the angel part of your brain makes you get up, very much against your will, and wake up and find the tape recorder and get that thing down.

Just when I’m leaving for the plane the next day I checked it out and I had this line repeating, kind of a hypnotic groove, it reminded me of the Jaynettes ‘Sally Go Round The Roses,’ so I grabbed the tape and split.

When ‘Valentine’s Day’ turned out so good, I told the band I had another idea for a song and they were enthusiastic about it so I arranged it right there on the spot writing it chronologically as the song unfolded.

And that was ‘Heard You’ve Got A Thing For Me.’”

“Working with Steven was great,” said Squirrel. “The first thing he said when he arrived at the studio was that we needed balloons. And soon the studio was filled with 100 helium heart shaped balloons! It was inspiring.”

According to Sugar Cane, “He pushed himself as well as us to our limits during recording and made us work harder and be better than ever before. He is a great mentor and we are very fortunate to benefit

from his talent and experience.”

“I didn’t know it was possible to learn so much and get so much work done in so little time. Sleep was a luxury we could not afford, and playing guitar solos at 5 am is actually one of my best memories from this recording session,” said guitarist Rocket Queen.

The Cocktail Slippers have earned an immense boost of support from music fans worldwide in 2008. The band headlined Teen Vogue’s sold out “Rock Meets The Runway” event in New York. Teen Vogue’s event was an all-girl band search which helped foster interest and participation in rock and roll.

Everyone involved felt the Cocktail Slippers were the best example of a female rock band, and those were terrific compliments considering the first-rate judges at the event. Two notable examples were Jason Castro of American Idol and Genya Ravan of the first ever Girl Rock group Goldie and The Gingerbreads.

The tremendous 2008 for the Cocktail Slippers is also reflected with their involvement with Rock Band 2. “Give It To Me,” from the 2007 album Mastermind, is currently featured on the game, and available now for free download to RB2 gamers.

The Cocktails Slippers’ reputation as a live band is renowned among fans around the world. The band loves playing live and is always up to whatever comes their way. Once in a small Mexican restaurant in

The Netherlands the band played the entire concert standing on three dinner tables. That same day they did a concert in Antwerpen State Prison. “We had dressed up as the Beagle Boys (when they are locked up). In between the songs we made suggestions about how the prisoners could escape. We were a bit worried if they would think it was funny or not, but luckily they did,” said Modesty Blaze.

“We are extremely happy about the outcome of the record and we are proud and excited to present it to

the world early next year,” said Rocket Queen. Now that the band has finished their most incredible album, and have an ambitious plan to support it, 2010 will only mean greater heights.

“Rock and Roll doesn’t need saving, the cure’s right here.” - David Fricke, Rolling Stone

Ladies and Gentlemen…the return of The Len Price 3…

Tightly wound and stripped to the bone - from the adrenalin surge of Chinese Burn, their 2005 debut, its incredible 2007 follow-up Rentacrowd, and now the tour de force that is Pictures, The Len Price 3 have consistently delivered an abundance of three-minute thrills, overflowing with frenetic energy and indelible hooks. By turns gritty and punchy, their delivery is sweetened by impossible to forget melodies, Beatlesque harmonies and the innovative spirit of The Who, The Creation, and The Kinks at their peak.

On Pictures, The Len Price 3 further develop their mastery of melody and harmony, combining the crackling electricity of their live shows with more ambitious arrangements, instrumentation and deceptively mature songwriting.

Wicked Cool Chairman Stevie Van Zandt calls Pictures “the band’s best album yet, and that’s saying a lot. The title track demonstrates why people compare the band favorably to the early Who.”

In true Len Price 3 style, Glenn Page (vocals, guitar), Neil Fromow (drums, backing vocals) and Steve Huggins (bass), again recorded on analogue to capture the vintage, earthy sound that only tape can provide. Pictures is produced by The Len Price 3, Jim Riley, Graham Day, and Kris Harris with insight from Wicked Cool Records founder Stevie Van Zandt.

Picturesis an unforgettable set of quick-fire musical snapshots, about people the band have encountered, filled with observations, light and dark, of the world today. Here are a few of highlights from Glenn Page, in his own words:

“Pictures”– “This track is one of my favorites and it seemed to lend itself perfectly to the album title. This song is heavily influenced by The Who. Musically it has a lot in common with Keith Moon’s drums and the noisy feedback breakdowns you get in tunes like ‘The Kids Are Alright’ and ‘Anywhere, Anyhow, Anyway’. Lyrically it has a humorous but dark edge to it a la ‘Pictures of Lilly, ‘I’m a Boy’ or ‘Happy Jack’.”

“The Girl Who Became a Machine”– “The biggest inspirations for this song were the Kinks and the Prisoners. It’s got a Kinks feel to the verse with some Prisoner type flourishes of Hammond organ throughout.”

“I Don’t Believe You” – “The song is one of our ‘Who’ like numbers with an acoustic guitar driving the riff like Substitute and falsetto harmonies on the chorus like the final section of ‘A Quick One’ The verse features a ridiculous but catchy ‘Ba, ba, ba’ refrain that has a touch of kids TV show theme tune about it.”

“Mr. Grey”– “A man who becomes so obsessed with his career that he forgets about the things that are really important like your family and having fun. It’s based upon observations I made of a former next door neighbour and his family.

Stylistically, this is my attempt at writing something that’s a cross between the Kinks and the Beatles. It’s a strummy, very English sounding song like Dedicated Follower of Fashion or Dandy, with a chorus and harmonies that are vaguely reminiscent of ‘Help’ period Beatles.”

Pictureswill be released on CD and vinyl LP - in the Wicked Cool tradition, the vinyl album will also include a bonus CD with three ADDITIONAL tracks not available ANYWHERE else (sixteen tracks in total), offering a fantastic bonus for vinyl aficionados and record collectors alike.

“Amazingly authentic 60s-Nuggets-style Garage Punk reflecting the one tiny ray of hope from the stygian dark hopeless madness of the asylum we like to call the 21st Century.” - Little Steven Van Zandt

Born out of suburban frustration The Urges started out in a damp Dublin garage in late 2004. With little or no musical knowledge they set out to write nothing but raw stripped down rock n roll.

Since then they have enjoyed the success of their debut single (Around &) Around Again which topped the Irish charts in the summer of 2005 and have played along side many big named bands such as The Zutons, The Las, Wild Billy Childish, Paul Weller, Ocean Colour Scene, The Buzzcocks, Babyshambles, Kula Shaker and just about every major garage band since the 60s (The Electric Prunes, The Remains, The Cynics, The Pretty Things). They have been included on a number of compilations with the likes of The Hives, 5678s, The Brian Jonestown Massacre and The Chesterfield Kings & have spent the last two years playing festivals throughout Europe including Oxygen (David Bowie, The Strokes, P.J. Harvey, The Kings of Leon) and the notorious Primitive Festival in Rotterdam, Holland (Von Bondies, The Mighty Ceasars, The Chesterfield Kings) as well as being invited to play Cavestomp in New York alongside such legends as The Sonics, The Alarm Clocks, Strawberry Alarm Clock & The Lyres.

The Urges sound can be traced as far back as the mid 60s where primal fuzztone and psychedelic organ kicked of real rock n roll - all the way up to the present day where indie garage rock could not be a more domineering musical force. When it comes to live shows The Urges dont resort to filling a set with plagiarized riffs & shoe gazing, their performances are both primal & chaotic emanating a threat of violence which makes the men stand back & makes the girls step forward! The Urges effortlessly drift in and out of different timings & melodies but constantly maintain an authentic yet primitive sound which always leaves the crowd crying for more.

Combine a whole lot of 60’s rock’n’roll, a few fistfuls of soul, a hip flask of rhythm & blues, and a splash of surf and you get the musical phenomenon that is the Woggles.

From songs that shake the rafters to shows that make for “a dance party rave-up that could melt Dick Clark’s face off” (Village Voice), the Woggles are a four-man delivery system for 200-proof, butt-shakin’ rock’n’roll. For two decades The Woggles have carried out their assault on the anemic state of popular music. They share a vision and blaze a trail with the same insanity as the true wildman originators of three-chord mayhem. Pop music fads and fashions may come and go, but the Woggles cut to the chase and drink from the source. Their new full length disc is the modestly titled “Rock And Roll Backlash”, on Little Steven Van Zandt’s new imprint label, Wicked Cool. “It’s Not About What I Want (It’s What You Got) was voted the “Coolest Song of 2006” by listeners of Sirius Satellite Radio’s Underground Garage Channel. Other choice cuts include “Porridge”, “Sayonara Blues, “Drive On”, “El Toro”, and the title track. Their ’06 release “Soul-Sizzling Seven Inch Meltdown” (Chicken Ranch Records) combines many of their now-rare b-sides, singles, instrumentals, and covers of obscure rock and soul nuggets, as well as three new songs.

The four members of the Woggles conjure up a sound that bypasses the brain and goes straight for the hip-bone. The Woggles’ wailing, tambourine flailing front man “the Professor” Mighty Manfred conducts energy through the audience like electricity from his fingertips. Guitar-slinger Flesh Hammer has become heir-apparent to the late and great Montague’s (R.I.P. ’03) string-bending legacy (since the Woggles’ first seven-inch in ’90, Mr. Hammer has also handled the production on most of the band’s releases). Pouring on the soul coal and making sure that the Woggles keep their fans’ chiropractors busy, the Woggles’ ferocious rhythm section features Alabama catfish farmer Dan Elektro on drums and the unflappable Buzz Hagstrom on bass. Catfish Dan embarked on his banging career at the tender age of ten, when he sat behind the skins of his father’s band the Country Gentlemen. Mr. Hagstrom is native to Folkestone England, and his impeccable continental sense of style comes with a license to kill. The Woggles have sired an extensive discography that encompasses a wide variety of cd & vinyl releases spreading over various international labels. They have appeared in several videos and independent films and have also contributed to numerous compilations, tribute albums, and film soundtracks. They have shared stages with legends Iggy & the Stooges, the Zombies, the New York Dolls, Johnny Cash, the Troggs, Bo Diddley, Nancy Sinatra, the Pretty Things, and Big Star as well as newer sensations like the Strokes, the Raveonettes, Beck, Holly Golightly, and Guitar Wolf (as well as countless others). “Go see a Woggles show. It will change your life” (Meredith Ochs, NPR All Songs Considered).

Wherever they may be, on tour around the world, the Woggles carry forth in the sprit of the ancient maritime explorers. They are the Johnny Appleseeds of bare-knuckle rock, spreading the seeds of three-chords- no waiting rock’n’roll to the far flung corners of the globe.

The Stabilisers’ music is a 21st century update on the two classic punk rock eras. They take the fuzzy clatter and harmony of the original garage bands of 64-67 and fuse it unceremoniously with the insolence and energy of the 76-78 vintage. They have managed a rare feat of musical alchemy in cracking the molecular code of the infectious punk-pop classic. Their songs are crammed full of instantly memorable hooks delivered with remorseless nervous energy and a commendable lack of seriousness. The current line-up gelled when Allan Crockford watched the original trio of Jon Bott, Simon Corbey and Francis Braithwaite reluctantly providing the soundtrack to a tasty brawl in a seedy south-east London pub. As bassist with The Prisoners, The Solarflares, JTQ and Billy Childishs Headcoats (amongst others), he had himself played in front of some mixed audiences over the years. The ability of this early line- up of the Stabilisers to hold their nerve and tuning while the audience destruction-tested pool cues on each others heads was impressive, but it was the catchy, powerful and often funny set of punk pop that convinced him to risk a beating by staying in the venue…

As the band took cover after the gig, Allan offered his services as an extra guitarist. They decided to take him up on his offer. With more than 30 albums to his name, he could bring to the band a wealth of musical experience - and some working amplifiers they could borrow. In turn, they offered him the opportunity to fill a glaring gap in his musical portfolio - a chance to play very loud 6 string guitar in a band that sounded like an unholy crossbreed of early Clash, XTC, Buzzcocks and The Undertones, with the added genetic fingerprints of some of the more angular garage bands of the late 60s.

The new four piece Stabilisers immediately recorded their first album and EP and released them on wilfully obscure Italian labels in 2004. Both ‘Last Chance Saloon’ (Skipping Musez) and ‘Evil Picnic’ (Nicotine) received rave reviews but very little distribution, and deserved a far wider audience. Look out for the now inevitable re-issues on Wicked Cool some day soon…
